Online Petition regarding Rancho del Pueblo golf course

The San Jose City Council will consider a decision regarding Rancho del Pueblo Golf Course and Los Lagos Golf Course on November 17, 2015. Use the form below to submit an online petition to the San Jose City Council to ask that it not sell any of Rancho del Pueblo Golf Course or Los Lagos Golf Course, stop expecting Rancho del Pueblo and Los Lagos to make the de facto land mortgage payments, and leave Rancho del Pueblo and Los Lagos as golf course recreational facilities.
Rancho del Pueblo Golf Course is an existing City-owned recreational open space primarily used by senior citizens and children. Rancho del Pueblo and Los Lagos are currently expected to make the de facto land mortgage payments, currently referred to as “debt service”. Other city-owned open spaces, such as the San Jose Municipal Golf Course and city parks, are not expected to recoup the land purchase price. Considering the de factor mortgage payments as a “loss” is very misleading since other city recreational spaces are not subjected to this outdated paradigm.

TEXT OF ONLINE PETITION
Dear City Council,
I petition the San Jose City Council to:
A. Not sell any of the city-owned open space land currently in use as the Rancho del Pueblo Golf Course and the Los Lagos Golf Course,
B. Stop expecting Rancho del Pueblo and Los Lagos to make the de facto land mortgage payments, currently referred to as “debt service”. Other city-owned open spaces, such as the San Jose Municipal Golf Course and city parks, are not expected to recoup the land purchase price. Considering the de factor mortgage payments as a “loss” is very misleading since other city recreational spaces are not subjected to this outdated paradigm.
C. Leave Rancho del Pueblo and Los Lagos as golf course recreational facilities. Other parks and recreational facilities exist for other purposes.

It is a one-of-a-kind facility located in the ideal neighborhood for The First Tee of Silicon Valley, which strives to impact the lives of at-risk youth and reach youth who would not otherwise be able to experience the character-building benefits of playing the game of golf. The First Tee of Silicon Valley continues to grow and thrive at the Rancho where over 800 youth took life skill classes through golf in 2014. The number of youth served at Rancho could reach 1,600 within the next few years if The First Tee of Silicon Valley could have more access.
