Should your water bill go up 44% when the state’s watchdog group recommends only a 10% increase?

San Jose Water Company proposed a 44% rate increase over three years. If you currently pay a $100 water bill, your bill would increase each year so you pay $144 in three years.

The state’s watchdog group analyzed the Water Company’s proposal and recommended only a 10% rate increase. If you currently pay a $100 water bill, your bill would only be $110 in three years.

But time is running out to voice your opinion. Temporary rates went into effect on January 1^st. The state will make a final decision soon. If the state’s final rates are lower than the temporary rates, the Water Company is required to refund the difference.
